Steam Locomotive Custom Display Piece

This one-of-a-kind Steam locomotive Custom Display Piece was hand crafted with excellent attention to detail. This serves as a shelf, cabinet and conversation piece. From the information gathered it was built in the early 2000's. It was built with wood and miscellaneous items such as a bell housing, lamps, flutes, LED light stripes, pumps, flex hoses and metal wheels. It's been used as a display piece and was purchased by MS CLASSIC CARS in April of 2024. This is the first time it's been listed for sale.

A steam locomotive is a locomotive that provides force to move itself by means of the expansion of steam. It's fueled by burning combustible material such as coal or oil to heat water in the locomotive's boiler to the point where it becomes gaseous and its volume increases 1,700 times. Functionally, it is a steam engine on wheels. In most locomotives, the steam is admitted alternately to each end of its cylinders in which pistons are mechanically connected to the locomotive's main wheels. Fuel and water supplies are usually carried with the locomotive. The first steam locomotive was built by Richard Trevithick in 1804. Beginning in the early 1900's, steam locomotives were gradually superseded by electric and diesel locomotives. The majority of steam locomotives were retired from regular service by the 1980's, although several continue to run on tourist and heritage lines.

The base is a wooden frame that was painted satin black. The black wooden front platform swivels for turning on four 6” metal wheels. The platform was decorated on the front and sides with metal artwork that were painted silver. The black wooden rear cab sits over four 12” metal wheels. The cab was designed and shaped like it's in motion. The cab has four windows with silver trim. The interior of the cab was outfitted with a door that opens and allows access to the inside the center piece. The door appears similar to a real locomotive. The cab flooring was covered with diamond plating. The middle cylinder was painted black and then covered with a metal screen for an authentic appearance. The middle cylinder represents where the firebox, broiler and super heater would be. The middle cylinder was outfitted with black lamp and lamp shade that appear like smoke stacks. The front was outfitted with an aluminum bell housing that was painted black. A lamp was added to the center which appears like a headlight. The lower front was outfitted with two black boxes that were also covered with metal screens to match. Two vintage pumps were painted silver and placed under the boxes to appear like steam pistons. Four flex hoses were added from the pumps to the cylinder. The middle cylinder was decorated with 8 authentic flutes for a realistic appearance. The flute manufacturers include Rene Dumont, Reynolds Emperor, Bundy, Artley, G. Deschamps, Portland, WT Armstrong and Paul Renne. The right side also has two flute pieces that appear like smoke stacks. Three clear tubes with LED light strips were added to each side of the cylinder which are in working order. It's equipped with a power cord that's connected to a power strip inside the cylinder. The dimensions are 37” H, 34” W and 72” L.
