1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z w/ 16,977 original miles
“In 2024, MS CLASSIC CARS sold the black 1985 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z with 11 original miles which was viewed by over 3,000,000 people on our social media platform. A few months later we sold a 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z with 87 original miles that I purchased from the original owner. I thought we'd keep the third generation Camaro momentum by offering this gorgeous 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z w/ 16,977 original miles. This car is documented one-family owned car with great history including a clean Car Fax report. Examples like this one are becoming harder and harder to find. This is a great car and a great opportunity.” – Marc Schiliro
This gorgeous 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z is a documented one-family owned vehicle with only 16,977 original miles. Yes, only 16,977 original miles! It's accompanied with the original owner's hand written notes, Order Acknowledgments Form, Vehicle Invoices, Dealer Certification for Emission Control Equipment Form, owner's manuals, service invoices from new, front license plate bracket, front end cover “bra” and a clean Car Fax report. This example was spec'd out and ordered by General Motors employee Roland G. Tarnutzer who lived in Janesville, WI. As documented on the original Vehicle Invoice this vehicle was ordered with the following optional equipment: (40U)- White exterior, (AR9 FRR2) – Red custom cloth interior, (AG9)- six way power seat, (AM9)- split folding rear seat, (AU3)- power door lock system, (AO1)- tinted glass, (A31)- power windows, (A90)- power hatch release, (B34)- front carpeted floor mats, (B35)-rear carpeted floor mats, (B4Z)-IROC-Z performance, (B48)-deluxe luggage compartment trim, (CD4)-intermittent windshield wipers, (C4A)-saver-pac package 1, (C49)-electric rear window defroster, (C60)- air conditioning, (DG7)- electric twin remote sport mirrors, (DK6)- interior roof console, (D42)-rear compartment cargo cover, (G92)- performance rear axle, (K05)- engine block heater, (K34)-electric speed control, (LB9)- 5.0L Tune Port Injection V8, (MX0)- automatic transmission with overdrive, (N33)-comfortilt steering, (QDZ)- P245/50VR-16 S/B RA, (TR9)- auxiliary lighting, (TT4)-halogen hi/low beams, (UA1)- heavy duty battery, (U05)- dual horns, (U75)- power antenna, (YE2)- ET AM/FM ST with cassette and (Z28)-Camaro Z28 Sport Coupe. The original MSRP was $17,324.00. Roland purchased the car from Sanderson Chevrolet located in Whitewater, WI and took delivery on October 26th, 1985. This car was Roland's prized possession and he treated it with the best of care. It was always maintained and properly stored inside a heated garage. Unfortunately, Roland passed at the age of 56 years old on February 22, 1997 just 12 years after he purchased the car. The car remained in the family with his son Troy Tarnutzer who lives in Janesville, WI. Troy kept the car for the next 26 years before selling it to MS CLASSIC CARS on December 14th, 2023. MS CLASSIC CARS invested a total of $9,899.39 in service and detail the car which is documented with invoices. April of 2025, is the first time it's been listed for sale.
The exterior of this car is in beautiful overall condition which speaks volume to how well it was treated over the years. The fact that this car was ordered without T-tops and a body side molding gives it a very sleek appearance. The body is free of any damage or dents. The car retains all of its original white paint with the exception of the front bumper which was repainted years ago. As the service invoices from April 14th, 1986 document Roland complained about the paint having some “ripples” and “dimples”. The dealership applied some new clear coat in the affected areas and did some wet sanding. This was common practice with vehicles from the 80's especially with General Motors. The paint is in excellent condition and was recently detailed to a show quality finish by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. All of the glass, rubber seals, hood vents, headlights, parking lights, tail lights, decals and emblems are in excellent condition. The clear coat on the original wheels was starting to peel so MS CLASSIC CARS stripped and applied new clear coat. MS CLASSIC CARS also wrapped the wheels with new General G-Max RS 245-50-16 tires.
The original Red Custom Cloth interior of this car is also in beautiful overall condition which once again speaks volume to how well it was treated over the years. Everything in the interior truly presents as almost new including such pieces as the overhead console, dash pad, dash fascia, gauges, temperature control panel, radio, console, shifter, steering column, steering wheel, door panels, seats and carpeting. The driver's door panel top plastic cover had a small crack in it from the transporter climbing out so the team at MS CLASSIC CARS replaced it. The original headliner was starting to come unglued which is common and it was replaced new. Everything in the interior is in working order including the air conditioning system which was recently gone through and converted to R134 by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. The original GM embossed red carpeted front and rear floor mats are included. The rear trunk compartment is extremely clean and in excellent condition. The original black cargo cover is present and in working order.
The engine compartment is nicely detailed throughout. The original hood insulation was starting to deteriorate so the team at MS CLASSIC CARS replaced it. The inner fender edges still retain the original rust inhibitor that was applied by the dealership when the car was sold new. It also retains all the factory original assembly paint marks and stickers. The car is powered by the original 5.0L Tune Port Injection V8 that runs excellent. The team at MS CLASSIC CARS completely serviced this engine including such items as the oil, filter, AC Delco distributor, AC Delco air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, belts, etc. The engine breathes through the original exhaust system and the cooling system is in excellent working order. The engine is coupled to the original automatic with overdrive transmission which shifts smoothly. The rear end cover and fluid was also changed by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS.
The undercarriage is also nicely detailed throughout. The original floors retain the correct factory white over spray. The floors also still retain the original rust inhibitor that was applied by the dealership when the car was sold new. It also retains all the factory original assembly paint marks and stickers. The team at MS CLASSIC CARS serviced the power steering system, fuel system, suspension components, and braking system.
