This authentic and numbers-matching Grabber Orange 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302 has been restored to show quality standards. This example is fully documented with the original Build Sheet, original Inspection Sheet, original Ford Invoice and Marti Deluxe Report. It also retains the original VIN Tag, Buck Tag, original exterior color, original interior color and original drivetrain. The Boss 302 is a high-performance 302 H.O. V8 powered variant of the Ford Mustang originally produced by Ford in 1969 and 1970. It was developed to meet homologation requirements to compete in Trans Am racing and was Ford's response to the success of the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and under SCCA series since 1967. While substantial modifications were required to the stock Boss 302 to be competitive on the track, many thousands were sold to the public in a street-legal form that included a refined high-performance engine along with upgrades to the suspension and brakes over base Mustangs. Ford only produced a total of 7,013 units for 1970 which makes them highly collectable. As Marti Deluxe Report indicates this example was ordered on October 9th, 1969 as a 1970 Ford Mustang Sportsroof Boss 302. It was ordered with the following options in no particular order: Grabber Orange Paint, Ford #3659-A, Black Rhino/Corinthian Vinyl Bucket seats, complete tinted glass, Sport Slats, Rear Deck Spoiler, F60x15 Belted Tires w/ Raised White Letters, AM Radio, Sport Deck Rear Seat, 302-4V Boss V8 engine, Evaporative Emissions, four-speed close ratio manual transmission, Traction-Lok Differential and Power Steering. The car was actually built on November 14th, 1969. It was released on November 17th, 1969. It was sold on December 2, 1969 by Lutz Ford Sales located in Palo Alto, California. From the information gathered it spent its life in California and was the product of a rotisserie restoration that was completed in or around the 2006 time frame. It's believed this was an original low mile example prior to the restoration. The current odometer is 45,237 which is believed to be original. Please note, there is no supporting documentation on the mileage or restoration. It was sold at the Russo and Steele Auction in Monterey, California in 2006. It eventually found its way to Legendary Motor Cars in Canada. It was purchased by collector Scott Holley of Fortville, Indiana in August of 2019. It's was part of his personal collection for over six years before it was purchased by MS CLASSIC CARS in October of 2025. MS CLASSIC CARS invested a total of $5,105.88 in service and detail which is documented with an invoice that's included. January of 2026 is the first it's been listed for sale by MS CLASSIC CARS.
The exterior of this '70 Boss 302 is ravishing with its factory design and striking color
combination. The exterior is defined by aggressive, race-bred styling featuring bold “hockey stick” side stripes with Boss 302 lettering, flared fenders for wider tires, a front spoiler, rear deck lid spoiler, blacked-out hood stripe and rear panel. The body is very straight with very nice gaps lines throughout. The hood, doors and deck lid close very nicely. It was refinished in its original color of Grabber Orange. The show quality paint was recently detailed to a glossy appearance by the team at MS CLASSIC CARS. The dual sport mirrors are also painted body color. It has a new Car-Lite stamped front windshield. The original Car-Lite stamped door glass, quarter glass and rear windshield only shows minor scratches. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced new such as the windshield stainless trim, drip rail and rear quarter glass trim, wiper arms, antenna, hood front edge trim, front grill, Wagner headlights, front bumper, parking lights, door handles, tail lights, gas cap, reverse lights and emblems. The car rolls on 15” Magnum 500 wheels that have a silver painted center with a chrome lip. The wheels are mounted to Goodyear Polyglas GT F60-15 raised white letter tires.
The interior of this '70 Boss 302 is in beautiful condition throughout. From the information gathered it's believed a lot of this interior is original. The Black Rhino/Corinthian color complements the Grabber Orange color and black accents perfectly. The headliner is tight and in excellent condition. The sun visors are also in excellent condition and the driver's side has the factory transmission instructions. The dash pad, dash fascia, gauges and lenses, Philco Radio and heating controls are in excellent condition. It appears that the vinyl bucket seats are original and in beautiful condition. The original seat belts still have the manufactures date of 1969. It also appears the rear seats and seat belts are original and in beautiful condition. The original Hurst shifter and T-handle are in very good condition. The door panels, door hardware, pedals and carpeting are in excellent condition. It was outfitted with the correct style Mustang rubber floor mats along with Ford Service paper mats for display. The painted trunk compartment is decorated with a correct style trunk mat. It's equipped with what's believed to be an original B.F. Goodrich space saver spare E78-14 tire along with tire inflator and jack.
The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The firewall, inner fenders and radiator support was refinished in the correct shade of black. The firewall was decorated with factory assembly stickers. The car is powered by the original matching-numbers 302-4V Boss V8 engine. The 302cubic inch 5.0L Boss V8 came with a high-lift camshaft, forged steel crank, Cleveland style heads and a Holley 4-barrell carburetor. The engine was factory rated with 290hp @ 5,800 rpm and 290 lb-ft @ 4300 rpm. This engine was completely rebuilt and refinished in blue. The engine was dressed with the original finned valve covers and correct style air cleaner with a chrome lid. The engine breathes through the correct style exhaust manifolds and a replaced dual exhaust system. This engine runs and sounds excellent. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers close ratio 4-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter. The transmission was rebuilt and shifts precisely through the gears. The power transferred to the original 3.50 Traction-Lok rear axle.
The undercarriage is very clean throughout. The floors were refinished in red oxide primer and with Grabber Orange overspray. Everything was restored or replaced during the restoration such as the power steering system, fuel system, suspension components and braking system. Many parts were decorated with factory paint assembly marks.
