This outstanding 1940 Keeney Air Raider Coin-Op Game is extremely rare and has been restored to high show quality standards. J.H. Keeney and Company (also known as Keeney & Sons) was a Chicago-based manufacturer of coin-operated arcade machines, pinball games and electronic devices, prominent from early 1930's through the 1960's. The business officially established factories in Chicago at 2900 S. Michigan Ave and later 2100 Calumet Ave. Keeney became famous in the late 1930's and early 1940's for military-themed arcade games. Hits like the Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun, Air Raider and Shoot Your Way to Tokyo were massive successes prior to the U.S. entering World War II. Following the passing of Jack Keeney in 1948, the company expanded into manufacturing complex electronic computing devices for the U.S. Navy and government. The company eventually ceased operations in the mid-1960's as the market transitioned.. The Keeney Air Raider is a big sized projection screen gun game which projects planes to shot at with the impressive 1930's machine gun. There were two versions of this game. The first version projected the plane images to shot at on a separate screen or wall (the 1939 Keeney Anti-Aircraft Machine Gun). The second version had an integrated screen as part of the game. Later Leeney introduced a jazzed up version of Air Raider called Keeney Shoot Your Way to Tokyo. They added a top backglass and a map to Tokyo where you would advance closer every time you shot one of the planes flying by. There are 15 flights per game with unlimited shots and hits per flight. This is slightly different than the 1939 Keeney Anti-Aircraft which allows only one hit per flight. From the information gathered there are a very limited amount of these arcade games in existence. Today, vintage Keeney machines are highly sought after by collectors of antique arcade games.

This example was discovered as an original piece and was the product of a complete restoration by expert Michael Hasanov of Vintage Coin-Op Restorations located in Chicago, Illinois. Countess hours and dollars were invested resulting in a high show quality piece that was completed in 2025. The uniquely designed body comes in three sections for easy maneuverability. The original Popular and Birch wood was completely stripped. Roughly 25% of the original wood was correctly replaced. The extremely straight body was refinished in the correct colors and graphics. The theme includes the sky with clouds, airplanes and United States military national insignia throughout. The bottom bases were refinished in black and the projector base was refinished in red. The original machine gun was nickel plated for a more impressive appearance then it originally left the factory. The mechanics were completely gone through which includes the original wiring, coils and projection screen. The audio card and machine gun noise was added for a more realistic gaming experience.
